Sport and total hip arthroplasty :

PTH SOUPLESSE copie

The age of our patients is getting younger and younger, so the problem of sport arises regularly and our patients ask for a return to physical activity as soon as the pain disappears and mobility is restored.

sport Nice

Although sports such as walking, hiking, cycling, swimming, golf and tennis do not pose any particular problem, skiing can seem more worrying and its return to the slopes depends essentially on the technical level of the patient before the operation.

sport de balle

For ball sports such as football, basketball, handball, volleyball and combat sports, it seems logical not to advise them.

COURSE a PIED

Finally, running, an impact sport, is today much discussed.

Personally I ask my patients to avoid running, jumping and carrying heavy loads, however passionate patients don't always listen to their surgeons and many have told me that they run very regularly and have done so for many years avoiding marathons and extreme trails. Their X-rays have not shown any particular deterioration!

However, I think it's important to be careful and to make the patient aware of his responsibilities because we don't yet have enough hindsight and specific studies on the practice of sports and the life span of prostheses.
