General

Gonarthrosis corresponds to knee osteoarthrisis, which is a frequent disease affecting 4.7% of men and 6.6% of women over 40 years of age in France.

Of course, it will appear all the more quickly in case of intensive sports practice, particular morphology of the lower limbs, overweight or a history of surgery or trauma.

The cartilage will therefore wear out progressively without causing pain at first, then the menisci which are the shock absorbers of the knee will crush and start to hurt.

Gradually the pain will reach the bone and the knee will swell regularly. This is an effusion of synovia very often accompanied by a popliteal cyst which corresponds to a lump in the posterior hollow of the knee.

All these problems will affect the function and everyday life, with a reduced walking perimeter, the appearance of lameness, difficulties on the stairs and in getting up from a chair.

Treatment will have begun as often as possible in order to delay the functional handicap as much as possible.
